My Mentor & Friend
My journey through the Stone Gate began at the encouragement of my mom. Having gone through a personally challenging period in my life, she gently persauded me to try quilting. Much to my delight, quilting was a new found outlet for me. I have been greatly blessed by the mentoring that I have received from her during these past few years. It is my pleasure to be able to introduce her to you here. I know she will be a wealth of encouragement and support to those who wish to journey through the Stone Gate with us. You will see her occasionally post here on the blog as well as taking on various roles within Stone Gate Quilts.
And now, here is a note from Chris Sandstrom from Sandy by the Stream Longarm Quilting.
When I began quilting 8 years ago, I had no idea where it would take me. I have found a world full of amazing creative quilters, unlimited designs, a fellowship of kindred spirits, and a passion for being part of “the blessing” of a gifted quilt.
For 21 years I owned and operated a small business that grew far beyond our expectations. My dream was that one of my daughters would one day take it over. This was not to be however, and that is ok as they both have been led in very different and fulfilling directions. Two and half years ago, Erin cautiously entered into the quilting world and found an outlet for her natural born gifts and love for architecture and history. Keeping up with her has been a challenge! As I pour into her my 60 years of sewing experience, it is always exciting to see her have the “ah-ha” moments.
Upon her invitation to “come through the Stone Gate”, I have found great joy in testing her designs and the developing the patterns. Collaborating on fabric choice, construction methods, and quilting designs has become a part of my day that I always enjoy. Experiencing together the completion of a design that has had to percolate for awhile has been very satisfying.
Stone Gate Quilts is a realized dream shared and cherished. Combining the experience of traditional construction methods with the youthful perspective of design which often incorporates architectural or historical elements and inspiration results in fresh designs for all skill levels. I am excited about the future of Stone Gate Quilts and where it will lead us. There are some very exciting ideas and plans ahead. Looks like we are headed for a “great adventure”. Won’t you join us and step through the Stone Gate?
