Time to Sew
I hear so often ” I wish I had more time to sew” from many of my quilting friends. Our lives get busy, especially if you are still raising a family. It’s common to push that which gives us respite from the “crazy” to the back burner, only to realize later that our “cup is now empty’” as we have not taken any time for some self care. When you work from home as I do, the time I spend in the studio is most days the entire day. Either I am quilting for a client, working on a prototype, proofing a pattern , making teaching samples or cleaning up. The “stay at home” order hasn’t affected me personally so much, but I know that it has for countless others. My sincere hope is that as you have had to “shelter in place” that this time has afforded you some extra time to sew and indulge in some self care.
For the past several weeks I have been getting 3 new designs ready to premiere in May. Erin has a workshop scheduled and is the speaker for a local guild and hopefully our country will be able to socialize in groups once again. She is also working on a new design, so I guess that makes four to show in May.
Rulers
One of my other current projects is a quilt to be our Country Star Fundraiser Quilt. I am especially excited about this quilt as I am near over the moon with the focal fabric and the design requires a couple of very unique construction methods I’ve not used before.
For this project, I have been using the Half Rectangle Triangle tool from Block Loc on this fundraiser quilt and am having so much fun with it. I am using both sizes as there are 2×4″ units and 1.5 x 2.5″ units required. If you haven’t used this particular ruler before, check it out. By putting two trimmed Half Rectangles Triangles together you get what looks like a tri-recs. I like this method best as I have less distortion and I’m trimming to the size I need.

There is a “left” and a “right” to making these units so it’s a 2 part ruler set. Easy peasey.
So for as long as this unusual time exists in our country, I hope you are taking some time for self care and getting an abundance of time with your sewing machine. We look forward to sharing the new designs with you in just a few short weeks.
